Types of Fabric Materials for Fashion Design
We advise clients launching a fashion line on the search and selection of fabrics for a clothing line. Fabrics in fashion are sourced worldwide from dealers, fabric mills, and fabric stores. We take the vision of clients and attends fabric shows and visits fabric stores to find the best fabrics for their fashion line. Tracking your fabric ideas and orders is critical as well.
Fabric swatches are cards holding small pieces of fabric which the fashion entrepreneur uses to easily touch and see potential clothing fabrics. Fabric stores and wholesalers provide fabric swatches upon request, and ADH helps clients select swatches and order them for closer review (they are mailed).
Fabric patterns and prints play a major role in designing a clothing line. Luckily the fabric supply world provides thousands of fabric patterns for the fashion entrepreneur to choose from. The availability of existing, creative fabric patterns reduces the clothing manufacturing cost.
Types of Fabrics for Clothing
The types of fabrics for clothing are limitless. Fabric varies by color, pattern, material, weight, and blend. As an example of differences in types of fabric, a blend of 90% cotton and 10% nylon will feel noticeably different than 100% cotton. More stretch and pull will be apparent in the first type of fabric.
Types of Fabric Materials
ADH advises clients on the quality and cost of various fabrics. Clients learn the tradeoffs between quality and price, feel and durability, and creativity and drape. A designer may love the feel of a 100% silk fabric, but an 80/20 silk and cotton blend provides a similar feel while allowing easier care.
